Heading to the Bay Area for the Weekend
The first couple months of my sabbatical, I wrote the first draft of my book that I’m writing for InterVarsity Press. The title of the book is Creating a Missional Culture: Equipping the Church for the Sake of the World. The tentative release date is Summer/Fall 2012.
After writing, I took one month to rest. I spent most of this time on three different Islands in Hawaii. Last month I’ve taken some time to reflect on the last 20 years of ministries, seeking to get in touch with my primal passions. I feel I have been able to do that to some degree. This month’s focus is to refocus and think about the next season of my life.
I feel that I am totally open to what God might have for me. In this next season of life, I seek to be more focused. I know that in part, I will be seeking a post graduate degree. I’m considering two tracks for this. One track would be to apply for a Ph.D program at VU University Amsterdam or a Doctor of Missiology at Fuller Theological Seminary. The Ph.D. program is more research and theory oriented, and the DMiss is also researched based with a balance of theory and practice. Either of these degrees will allow me to live in whatever city I sense that God would want me to live.
I absolutely love LA and may very well continue to help plant more Kairos LA churches here. Though it has also been our heart to eventually make our way to Northern California. So this month I’m seeking the Lord on if this is the timing for this or not.
Thus I’m taking an impromptu trip to San Francisco this weekend. I’m leaving tomorrow morning and will stay up in the Bay area (San Fran, Berkeley and Oakland in particular) to meet with various church leaders and church planters. I’ve already made plans to connect with Ryan Jones who serves with The Eucharist and Aaron Monts who serves with IKON Christian Community in San Francisco. If you know of some others I should try to connect with let me know. I don’t have a lot of time, but it would be cool to make some more connections.
I would appreciate any prayers and advice as I seek to discern God’s path for me this next season of life.
