Waiting for the Light – A Resource for Advent

There are so many subversive ways that our society seek to shape us into “good American consumers”. The “holydays”, I mean holidays are clearly one way in which this happens, be it Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s day etc. This is one of the reasons why for the last number of years, our churches in LA have sought to engage in Christian-Year Spirituality, where from Advent to Pentecost we observe the Christian Calendar together in order to remember and be shaped by the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.

With advent coming soon, I wanted to make you aware of a resource that can help your family and faith community walk through this season together. Christine Sine for the last number of years, has hosted a blog series on Godspace during the Advent and Christmas season, where she has had contributions from bloggers around the globe on the theme of Waiting for the Light. She has now, with the help of some of the Mustard Seed Associates team, put together an excellent Advent resource for us by that same title. “It is more than a devotional, it is a complete guide to the Advent and Christmas seasons, providing liturgies, weekly activities and daily reflections to equip and nourish us all through the season.”

Each week Advent focuses on a different theme:

  • Week 1: Preparing
  • Week 2:  Seeking or Expecting
  • Week 3: Waiting
  • Week 4: Becoming
  • The theme for the twelve days of Christmas is incarnation

Each week begins with a prayer or liturgy that incorporates the week’s theme, and then there are other activities mentioned that will help you and your family and/or church focus more meaningfully on Christ this coming advent season.

If you order Waiting for the Light by November  15th, you are able to get this rich resource for only $13.  That includes shipping and handling!  After November 15th, the price will be $18, including shipping and handling.  Proceeds from this book help the Mustard Seed ministry continue to bless many people.  I have an article in the book and am looking forward to using this resource this coming advent season.
